Typical Situations
  • Phone or Text scams
Scams often look genuine, appearing to come from trusted organisations or people you know, using spoofed numbers and urgent language to pressure you into acting quickly. They may include fake links or phone calls designed to steal your personal details, access your accounts, or take control of your computer.
  • Charity scams
Charity scams exploit compassion, posing as legitimate causes or urgent appeals after disasters, often using familiar names, emotional language, and spoofed contacts. They pressure you to donate quickly, directing you to fake websites or payment requests that send your money straight to scammers.
  • Investment scams
Investment scams promise high returns with little or no risk, often impersonating legitimate financial firms and using convincing marketing to appear credible. They pressure you to act quickly, show fake “growth” in your account, and may allow small withdrawals to build trust — before blocking access and taking your money when you try to withdraw it all.
  • Dating scams
Romance scams build false relationships online through dating apps, social media, or gaming platforms, using fake profiles and constant attention to gain your trust. Once you’re emotionally invested, scammers create urgent stories or push fake investments or crypto schemes, convincing you to send money before disappearing with it.
  • "Free" money scams
Entitlement and prize scams claim you’re owed unexpected money, rebates, or winnings, luring you in with the promise of “free” cash. To access it, scammers ask for fees or personal and financial details — but there is no payout, and you end up losing money instead.
  • Online or Email scams
Impersonation scams use fake websites, emails, ads, and endorsements to look like trusted brands, government agencies, or well-known figures. By copying logos, email addresses, and using urgent warnings or fake reviews, scammers pressure you to click links or open attachments that steal your money or personal information.
